halloween costume series :: bee and the beekeeper

Happy Halloween!!!  Hope you all got lots of candy!

To finish out the costume series I started earlier this month, here is a picture of my kids' Halloween costumes this year.  Buzz, buzz!

I don't even know where to start... it's been an awful weekend.  As many of you know, I had a large Halloween dessert table due for yesterday.  I had made several hundred individual desserts and we were ready to set up.  However, things took a horrible turn Saturday morning.  My client, and dear friend, suddenly died.  I can't get my head around this.  I miss him so!  Please excuse me for awhile, while I continue to help the family get through this terrible time.

eyeball cake pops

As promised, a quick picture of one the cake pops I've made for this weekend's Halloween dessert table job.  Eyeballs!!!  As if eating an eyeball wasn't creepy enough, I made the center red velvet cake.  Wonder if anyone will notice the "bloody" resemblance!?

Okay, back to the kitchen!  Not only do I have this party for 150+, but I also have a 90th birthday cake due this weekend.

spooky fingers

This weekend I have a Halloween dessert table for 150+ guests.  This event will wrap up my crazy October schedule and things will get back to normal around here.  Yay!  (By the way, last weekend's wedding was great - I will share pictures soon.)   So, I'm knee deep in baking this week, but since I'm feeling guilty for not posting in several days, I thought I'd give you guys something to look at.

These are shortbread cookies made to look like fingers - bloody cuticles and all!  I have to try everything I make (you know, quality control!), so after getting over the "eating a finger" thing, I was really happy with how they turned out.  Very tasty!  Again, excuse the photo - just a quick shot from my iPhone.

Tomorrow I'll show you one of the cake pops I'm doing.  Hint - it's another body part!  I love Halloween!  When else to we get to eat body parts!?!

fall photos

Okay, this has nothing to do with parties or entertaining, but I still wanted to share.  If you don't care, just humor me.  I'm not as organized as others who have a personal blog as well - that would definitely get neglected in my hectic world, so just bare with me when I occasionally put up some totally personal stuff.  Since I can justify anything, I'll just tell myself this is a way of letting my readers know a little bit more about me!!!  Will you buy that!?

Moving on... we recently made our annual trip out to Strawberry Hollow Pumpkin Patch in Guilford, CT so I could take some pictures of the girls.   We look forward to this day every year.  Truth be told, it's one of my favorite days of the entire year.  Enjoy!

fall festival dessert table

This past weekend I put together a fall festival themed dessert table.  Enjoy!

One fun easy tip I thought I would share... Some of the plates I raised by placing them on top of wood baskets that I found at Target for $2.50!!  I also found the fall wreaths at the Target Dollar Spot.  I put them under the square cake plates holding the mini spice cakes and under the gingersnap cookies basket.  It gives a festive touch for not much money.

Apple pie sticks - idea from the one and only Bakerella here!

lil' pumpkin cake pops

I'm baking away for an event this weekend - hence the complete lack of posts lately. Sorry, but I warned you my October was nuts!

Yesterday was my first time to make cake pops. I've made dozens of other desserts on a stick, but a cake pop virgin I was. I thought they turned out cute and wanted to share. Since I'm so busy, I just took a quick picture with my iPhone so please excuse the quality. I got inspiration for the design here. Oh, and the queen of cake pops - Bakerella, of course!

I've made several other goodies for this event too and I'll share pictures of the whole dessert table soon. I'm really excited about setting up tomorrow.

Okay, now I've got to get back in the kitchen! It's going to be a late night!

halloween drinks

Peek-a-boo!  I'm sure some of you have seen this, but I just had to share this photo from Pottery Barn.  Look at those drinks... So creative!  Black martini glasses with cocktail onion garnish.  Genius!
