blog love

Wow, am I in heaven? I have recently been featured on 3 blogs (to my knowledge) and I can't believe the amazing response. Seriously, I think I've died and gone to heaven. It is just such a surreal feeling seeing your name/work in "lights" so to speak. I regularly watch these blogs, so to have one of my parties showcased on them is pretty cool in my book. These bloggers are like celebrities to me - I'm star struck! So to receive emails and accolades from them (as well as lovely comments from their readers) is still taking awhile to sink in.

This all started when I entered the "Most Adorable Kids Party 2009" hosted by Jenin over at Creative Hostess. I didn't place, but apparently was a finalist, which is turning out to be just fine with me! I have not only been showcased on her blog here, but also by Chris over at Celebrations at Home. They are both just the sweetest ladies. Thanks again Jenin and Chris! Then today, while doing my regular blog perusing, I went here and guess what I found... my party again! I feel so loved! Again, like I said, a very surreal feeling when you stumble upon yourself (and I don't mean tripping over your own feet - which I do. Often!).

Oh, and I have to give a shout out to the first blogger that posted my party, my great friend Laurie. Go check her out here. She is such an inspiring person.

So, without further ado, I better get my rear in gear and post the party they all already have up on their sites.

healthy valentine treat

Since my daughter's pre-school requests no candies/treats for Valentine's Day, I tried to come up with some way to still incorporate a "goodie" bag for my daughter, Ella, to share. Surely the parents and/or teachers will be fine with a fruit treat, right?! All kids love apples and oranges.

The tags say: "You're the 'apple' of my eye" and "'Orange' you going to be my Valentine?" respectively.

Ella cut out all the hearts and we then ran them through a tool that crimps paper. (Side bar... every time I use this tool it makes me think of when I used to crimp my hair in the 80's. Boy, wasn't that a weird trend!) Then we added some "stitching" around the border, I wrote the sayings and she proudly finished them with her signature. I always have treat bags on hand for this type of occasion. Throw a little curly ribbon around and you have a very cheap, easy and healthy valentine!

cake anyone?

Recently, a big part of my creative life involves the custom cakes I design and make. So I thought 'why not showcase a few here on my blog'!? Do you know how hard it is for a frosting addict like me not to eat the entire cake before I deliver it!?

This cake was for a beach themed graduation party.

A baby shower I had for a friend. Blue and Brown - oh, so cute!

This cake was for a 1st birthday "Bubble Bash". As you can see, the cake was a replica of the bubble favors they handed out. The bubbles, even though challenging, were fun to make.

For a butterfly baby shower.

Another 1st birthday!

This cake I did for a bridal shower. I know, I know, pretty "heavy" colors for a bridal shower, but there was a good reason. The castle was a replica of where the wedding was going to be. And since St. Clements Castle didn't ask me for my input on their colors (the nerve!!!), I had to go with it.

Several people at this Easter party didn't even know this was cake!

That's enough for now. I'm dying here looking at all these cakes again - I have to go make some frosting! Frosting shot anyone? I guess I could even make my cakes a regular post... Do you guys like seeing them?

super 'ball' sunday

Every year we make the same snack to eat during the Super Bowl - a yummy seven layer dip! See recipe below. This year, our 4 year old daughter wanted to help make it. While fist deep in avocado (my favorite layer by the way), she said "Today is Super BALL Sunday!" After my husband and I stopped laughing, he tried to correct her by pointing to a bowl on the counter and telling her it is Super Bowl Sunday. What a confused look on her face! Her reply, "Dad, that doesn't even make sense". From the mouths of babes! Hope everyone enjoys the game - or like in my case, the commercials.

7 Layer Dip
- 1 (9oz.) can Frito Bean Dip (since I can never find that up here in CT, I just use a half a can of refried beans)
- 1 avocado chopped
- 2 tbsp. lemon juice
- 1/2 tsp. garlic salt
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1 pkg. dry taco seasoning
- 1 large tomato finely chopped
- 1/2 cup sliced black olives
- 1 cup cheddar cheese grated
- 1/2 cup chopped green onion

Spread bean dip all over large plate. Arrange avocado on top of bean dip. Sprinkle with lemon juice and garlic salt. In a small bowl, combine sour cream and taco seasoning. Spread over avocado. Top with tomato and black olives. Cover with cheese and green onions.
Enjoy!

halloween party

Where does the time go??? So, I obviously haven't written in awhile. Scratch that - I mean forever. I have to resolve to do better. I have piled and piled stuff to share, but just haven't sat down and done it. So here we go...

One of my clients called me less than a week before Halloween (I know, I know. Yes, I'm going all the way back to Halloween) and asked me to do a Dessert and Candy Bar for his children's Halloween party. With only 5 days to pull this off, I had to call in reinforcements - a special thanks to my hubby and good friend Brandie. Without their help things would have been much simpler! Yes, we made everything - right down to the candy tree topiaries. Here it is...

little sal's italian afest

Well, THE party is over. I've finally come up for air. It was huge - both in size and success! I feel very fortunate to have been a part of this party. Everything was perfect - the weather, the client, the venue (which was at the client's beautiful home) and the company. The pictures just don't do this event justice; it was too large to photograph. Does that make any sense?!

Since the pictures don't do the party justice, I've included some written details.

-the main tent was 40' x 80'

-there was about 50 staff working the event

-Activities included: mandolin and accordian players, live entertainment (an italian singer/performer) as well as a DJ, photo booth, a magician, face painting, carnival games, prize cart

-5 Food booths serving: sausage and peppers sub, chicken cutlet, eggplant parmesan, meatball sub, ziti, lasagna, caesar salad, calamari salad, fried dough, clams on the half shell and more!

-then there were the 2 beverage booths: the soda/water (non-alcoholic) booth which had about 20 refreshments to choose from including a whole line up of Foxon Park sodas - you know the old cute glass bottle sodas. So cute! There were also several Italian sodas/refreshments available too. Then the wine and beer booth had both red and white, two beers on tap and champagne and peaches.

-a guy with his coffee/espresso cart

-a guy with his gelato cart

-dessert table: 2 different kinds of birthday cake, italian pastries, torrone, confetti (candy almonds) and of course cannoli's.

Too much to even describe! I just wish I could have been a guest at this party. I will post more details in the future. This post is getting quite lengthy, but there is just so much to tell.

In honor of the party...
Salute!

gearing up!

So the count down is on to my first MAJOR party. When I say major, I mean major. Not like the normal sized events I've done plenty of. A wedding I recently planned was a fraction of what this party is going to be. This weekend's gig is for a 1 year old birthday party, which seems like no big deal until the guest list comes into play. 400 guests!!!!!!! Yeap, you read that right, 400 people attending a 1 year old birthday. The theme is Italian Carnival or Italian Carnevale if you want to be technical - think Feast of San Gennaro. Here are a couple facts about the party just to give you some perspective on how big this party will be exactly... One tent will be 40'x80' - the entire lot my house sits on is only 50'x100'. There will be four food booths, four game booths, a magician, a photo booth, the tent, and much, much more. You can imagine how my head is spinning. I have been all around town the past couple of days picking up last minute items. I will post pictures soon - I promise.

On another note, I have already gotten two orders for Halloween cakes (which are my favorite to make). There is so much going on right now and it makes me oh-so-happy! Be careful what you wish for because it might just come true!
